This blog is basically me pretending to be a photographer.
Over here I pretend to be a writer/photographer.
I have issues.

Venice, Italy

Recently my wife and youngerst daughter visited the beautiful city of Venice. All I can say is thank god for digital cameras. Everywhere I looked was a picture.

Free Bird!

I walked up on the bow as we were underway at sea and was startled to see we had a visitor. It seems I startle him too.

Towing up close

Here we're towing our barge close behind us as we navagate through New York harbor. In an hour or so as we head out of Ambros Channel, we will let out more cable, and when at sea the barge will be 1500 ft behind us.

A wrestling match

As each year passes, it's becoming more and more apparent that this tug boat stuff is a young mans game. Photos show fellow crew members with their hands full.

Morning visitor

Had a staring contest with this visitor the other morning. She was checking out our compost pile.

24/7

The fight against rust on a steel tug boat is a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week job. And the rust always wins. The top picture shows Mike, the deckhand and to Mikes lower left jack, the Captain, keeping the boat looking good.
The Captain's job description says nothing about him chipping and painting, but Jack loves to just dive right in with the rest of the boys.
Below, my assistant engineer putting together a little salad as part of our lunch. The picture has the feel of a jail cell.
That's appropriate.

Up the North River

We're anchored tonight a few miles away from the chaos that can be New York Harbor.
I have no idea what these buildings are, but the sun was setting and the glare off the windows looked really cool. My camera did not do this photo justice.

After departing Brooklyn and this old warn out grain terminal, we cruised by Manhattan, the absence of the Twin Towers still very obvious years later.
